IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023 BY USING COLLABORATIVE STRATEGIC READING (CSR)

Reading comprehension is the act of understanding and comprehending the text. It is important for the readers to comprehend and find the meaning of the text. Besides, the purpose is to avoid misunderstanding when the text read, it is because in reading the readers is not only focused on reading the word and sentence but also, they should know the meaning. The objective of the present study was to find out whether or not reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved using collaborative strategic reading. The subjects of the present study had difficulty in identifying general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textual reference of the text. Therefore, to achieve the objective of the present study, the researcher administered the pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2 clearly showed the improvement of the subject's reading comprehension after the implementation of reciprocal teaching strategy. The mean scores from the pre-test, post-test 1 and posttest 2 were 65.75, 74.87, and 78.41. Besides, as the supporting data of the present study, the researcher administered the questionnaire in the end of the cycle II. It showed that the responded of the implementation of collaborative strategic reading teaching strategy was positive. To sum up, the present classroom action research concluded that reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 could be improved using collaborative strategic reading.
