IMPROVING SPEAKING SKILL OF THE TENTHGRADE STUDENTS OF SMK PARIWISATA KERTAYASA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023 THROUGH TALKING CHIPS STRATEGY WITH PICTURE

Speaking skill is one of four important skills which has to be essentially mastered. In fact, most of the students in senior high school faced problem in speaking skill. The objective of the present study was to find out whether the extent of speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa in academic year 2022/2023could be improved through Talking Chips combined with picture through a classroom action research. There for to achieve the objective of the present study the researcher activities consisted of pre-test, posttest and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test clearly showed that the subject under study were low 69.82. Then the researcher applied the Talking Chips combined with picture to increase the ability of the subjects under study. The post tests were administered at the end of each cycle by using picture. The result of the post-test in cycle I and cycle II were 74.43 and 80 there has been a change in score increase from cycle 1 to cycle 2. Moreover, to collect the additional supporting data, the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end cycle II. It showed that the students‟ improvement and achievement changed positively after the implementation of Talking Chips with picture. To sum up, the present classroom action research proved that speaking ability of the tenth-grade students of SMK Pariwisata Kertayasa in academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through Talking Chips combined with picture through a classroom action research. In addition, the subjects also responded positively.
