IMPROVING READING COMPREHENSION OF THE EIGHT-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 3 SUKAWATI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023 THROUGH NUMBERED HEAD TOGETHER

Reading comprehension is one of four important skills which has to be essensitially mastered. In fact, most of the studnets in junior high school faced problem in reading comprehension. The objective of the present study was to find out whether the reading comprehension of the eight-grade students of SMPN 3 Sukawati in academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through Numbered Head Together through a classroom action research. There for to the achieve the ojective of the present study the researcher activities consisted of pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test clearly showed that the subject under study were low 61.20. Then, the researcher applied Numbered Head Together to increase the ability of the subjects under study. The post-test were administered at the end of cycle. The result of the post test in cycle I and cycle II were 78.25 and 80.87 the signification different figured that cycle II was more effective than cycle I. moreover, to collect the additional supporting data, the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end cycle II. It showed that the students’ motivation and attitude changed positively after the implementation of Numbered Head Together technique. To sum up, the present classroom action research proved that reading comprehension of the eight-grade students of SMPN 3 Sukawati in academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through Numbered Head Together through a classroom action reseach. In addition, the subjets also responded positively.
