Abstract
Speaking is an important skill that students should master when they learn a language. This skill is also the required skill that must be achieved by the students. To achieve it, the students have to have the big competence in speaking. In fact, there were still many weaknesses in practicing this skill. The subjects of the present study were the eighth-grade students of SMPN 6 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 that consisted of 21 males and 21 females. Based on the result of the pre-test which was carried out in the pre-cycle, it showed that the subjects’ skill in writing descriptive paragraph was categorized as insufficient, which was 65.21. The present classroom action research then was carried out by think pair share technique in two-planned cycles. From the technique implemented, there was significant improvement from subjects’ skill in writing descriptive paragraph, in which it improved from insufficient to good, which was 75.57 in cycle I and 83.76 in cycle II. Furthermore, the research could bring the improvement to the subjects’ skill in writing descriptive paragraph by implementing the technique. To sum up, the present classroom action study proved that think pair share technique could improve the speaking skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 6 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. Moreover, the technique implemented was also responded positively by the subjects of the study which were the eighth-grade students of SMPN 6 Denpasar
