Abstract

ABSTRAK

Staphylococcus aureus merupakan mikroflora normal dalam rongga mulut. Namun, pada keadaan tertentu, bakteri ini dapat berubah menjadi patogen karena adanya faktor predisposisi, seperti kebersihan rongga mulut yang rendah. Beberapa penyakit dalam rongga mulut dan sekitarnya yang dapat disebabkan oleh Staphylococcus aureus yaitu abses, gingivitis, angular cheilitis, parotitis, staphylococcal mucositis dan denture stomatitis. Bahan alternatif yang dapat digunakan sebagai penghambat pertumbuhan bakteri ini yaitu daun bidara Arab (Ziziphus spina-christi L.). Hal ini karena daun bidara Arab mengandung senyawa flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, tanin, dan steroid. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh konsentrasi ekstrak daun bidara Arab terhadap daya hambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. Ekstraksi bidara Arab menggunakan metode maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 96%. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa diameter zona hambat ekstrak daun bidara Arab konsentrasi 20%, 30% dan 40% masing-masing mencapai 10,0 mm; 10,800 ± 0,27 mm; dan 12,20 ± 0,45 mm. Hal ini berarti semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak daun bidara Arab maka semakin tinggi daya hambat atau antibakteri yang terbentuk. Dari penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak daun bidara Arab memiliki kandungan antibakteri yang mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus.

ABSTRACT

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the normal microflora in the oral cavity. However, in certain circumstances, these bacteria can turn into pathogens due to predisposing factors, such as poor oral hygiene. Some oral diseases caused by Staphylococcus aureus are abscess, gingivitis, angular cheilitis, parotitis, staphylococcal mucositis, and denture stomatitis. An alternative material that can be used as an inhibitor for the growth of this bacteria is the leaves of the Arabian bidara (Ziziphus spina-christi L.). This is because the leaves of the Arabian bidara contain flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, and steroids. This study aimed to determine the effect of the concentration of bidara Arabic leaf extract on the inhibition of the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The extraction method was maceration with ethanol 96% as the solvent. This study used a modification of the Kirby-Bauer method. The result showed that the diameter of the inhibition zone of bidara Arabic leaf extract at concentrations of 20%, 30%, and 40% was 10.0 mm; 10800 ± 0.27mm; and 12.20 ± 0.45 mm. It means the higher the concentration of bidara Arabic leaf extract, the higher the inhibitory or antibacterial power that is formed. This study concluded that bidara Arabic leaf extract has an antibacterial content that can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
