AN ANALYSIS OF DIRECTIVE ILLOCUTIONARY ACT DISCOVERED IN CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE MOVIE

This study entitled “An Analysis of Directive Illocutionary Acts Discovered in Central Intelligence movie by Rawson Marshall.” It aims to find out the types of directive illocutionary acts and the context of situation of directive illocutionary acts utterance expressed by the characters. The types of directive illocutionary acts are discussed using the theory of directive illocutionary acts proposed by Kreidler (1998: 189-190) and the context situation is discussed using theory of the context of situation proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1985: 12). In collecting the data, the writer watched the movie and marked the utterances that contains directive illocutionary acts in the movie script. The method used in analyzing data was descriptive qualitative method. The writer classified data based on the types of directive illocutionary acts and then analyzed the context of the situation. In presenting the finding, formal and informal methods were used. Formal method was used to show the percentage of the utterances which contained directive illocutionary acts by using table, informal method was used to explain the data descriptively through words. In terms of the directive illocutionary acts there are three types of directive illocutionary acts that are expressed in which directive illocutionary acts for commands which occurred 28 times, requests 12 times and suggestions 10 times meaning the total is 47 data including the meaning with the context of situation that consists of the field, tenor and mode. Directive illocutionary acts are interesting to be analyzed because it is often used in daily life.
