Abstract

This study entitled “An Analysis of Directive Illocutionary Act Performed in the Movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV”. It aims to find out the types of directive illocutionary acts and the context of situation of directive illocutionary acts expressed by the characters. The types of directive illocutionary acts are discussed using the theory of directive illocutionary acts proposed by Kreidler (1998: 189-190) and the context of situation is discussed using theory of context situation proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1985: 12). In collecting the data, the writer watched the movie and marked the utterances that contains directive illocutionary acts in the movie script. The method used in analyzing data was descriptive qualitative method. The writer classified data based on the types of directive illocutionary acts and then analyzed the context of the situation. In presenting the finding, formal and informal methods were used. Formal method was used to show the percentage of the utterances which contained directive illocutionary acts by using table, informal method was used to explain the data descriptively through words. In terms of the directive illocutionary acts there are three types of directive illocutionary acts that are expressed. Based on the data, there are 54 utterances found in the movie which directive illocutionary acts for commands which occurred 21 times, requests 15 times and suggestions 18 times. The context of situation suppot the analysis of directive speech act that consists of the field, tenor and mode.
