THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND READING COMPREHENSION OF THE TENTHGRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 BLAHBATUH IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2022/2023. The samples of the research consisted of 72 students from 432 tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2022/2023 and they were chosen by means of cluster sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured questionnaire and short answer texts. The results of normality and homogeneity test showed the two research variables were normal and homogenous. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test which was done by using IBM SPSS Stastistic 26.0. futhermore, it was found out the result of the correlation betwen motivation nad reading comprehension was 0.633. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2022/2023.
