Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to find out the significant correlation between reading habit and reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMPN 6 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. There were two variables in the present research. The independent variable was reading habit and the dependent variable was reading comprehension. The population of this study was eighth grade students of SMPN 6 Denpasar. The sample of this study were 43 students which were taken with cluster sampling. The design of this study was ex post facto research correctional study. Furthermore, the questionnaire and short answer test were used as the research instrument. The research instruments were made in order collected the required data. The data were then analyzed by using SPSS 25 version. There were two steps in analyzing data, namely prerequisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis testing was conducted by applying Pearson Product Moment Correlation and T-test. Based on the finding, it was found that the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.555 which indicates a significant correlation between reading habits and students' reading comprehension. In other words, students' reading habits affect the reading comprehension of class 8.3 students at SMPN 6 Denpasar for the 2022/2023 academic year.
