AN ANALYSIS OF CODE MIXING FOUND ON CURHAT BANG DENNY SUMARGO YOUTUBE CHANNEL

This study is concerned with the code mixing found on CURHAT BANG Denny Sumargo YouTube Channel. This study aims to identify the type of code mixing and to describe the reason of code mixing found on CURHAT BANG Denny Sumargo YouTube channel. This study used the theory from Hoffman (1991) to analyze the type of code mixing and the reason of code mixing. The data were taken from CURHAT BANG Denny Sumargo YouTube Channel on the video entitled “Aku Dan Elbarack Menangis Bareng Di Garasi Aku Udah Gak Percaya Cinta Lagi”. This study applied descriptive qualitative and quantitative methods with observation and noted taking techniques to collect the data. This study shows three types of code mixing that are found, such as; intra sentential code mixing, intra lexical code mixing, and involvement in a change of pronunciation. In this study intra-sentential code mixing is the most frequently used in the type of code mixing. However, there are five the reasons of code mixing that are found in this study, namely; talking about a particular topic, being emphatic about something, repetition used for clarification, intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor, expressing group identity, and expressing group identity is the most frequently used in the reason of code mixing. However, several reasons, such as quoting somebody else and interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors), are not found in this data. Doing code mixing makes it easier for both participants to convey something and make the conversation more interesting.
