Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country that has significant potential of producing fish and other sea animals such as shrimp and crab. The main component of the shells of shrimp and crab is chitin, a natural polysaccharide which has many uses. One derivative of chitin is chitosan. Chitosan has many benefits such as antibacterial material in the form of hand sanitizer gel, preservatives, as a filler in the transparent soap, and can accelerate wound healing which is able to increase the proliferation of fibroblasts. Objectives: The aim of this study was conducted to determine the effect of gel CMC (Carboxymethyl Cellulose) on nanochitosan white shrimp shell (L. vannamei) against fibroblast cell cytotoxicity. Methods: The type of research used in this study is an experimental laboratory. This study using three samples: 10% nanochitosan powder, gel and placebo, and using cell and media control. Cells that were propagated transferred into 96-well plate with trypsin method. Each well plate filled with cell as much as 104 , After 90% of cells confluent then the cells were incubated. Each well incubated for 24 hours in an CO2 incubator, then proceed to MTT test procedure. Results: The results showed that the average percentage of living cells increased after the treatment were the 10% nano-chitosan powder mixed with placebo samples, where the percentage of living cells was highest in the nano-chitosan gel (11499.98).
