MEMPERKIRAKAN USIA MELALUI GIGI DENGAN MENGGUNAKAN METODE KVAAL PADA USIA 20 SAMPAI DENGAN 21 TAHUN

Introduction:
Age estimation using Kvaal’s method is non-destructive, easy to apply and widely used in various populations.
Objective:
This study was aimed to age estimation in adults between 20 and 21 years old using Kvaal’s method and to evaluate the accuracy of this method comparing chonological age.
Materials and Methods:
The sample in this study consisted 30 panoramic radiograph between 20 and 21 years old using Sidexis software. Age estimation is done by measuring pulp-tooth ratio of mandibular first premolar according predetermined variables then substituted into Kvaal’s method and Kvaal Modification India formula. Data were analyzed using paired t-test SPSS 13.
Results:
Based on statistical data the mean of chronological age was 20.5 with variance 0.259. Meanwhile, the mean for Kvaal’s Method was 26.3333 with variance 90.920 and mean for Kvaal Modification India was 25.8667 with variance 4.326. The significance results was 0.002 for Kvaal’s Method and 0.000 for Kvaal Modification India. There was a significant difference between chronological age and approximate age using Kvaal’s method and Kvaal Modification India (Sig< 0.05).
Conclusion:
The Kvaal’s method and Kvaal Modification India is inaccurate for age estimation in adults between 20 and 21 years old.
