Abstract

Cytotoxicity test is a biological evaluation in dental materials and is required for standard screening procedures. The aim of this test is to find out the toxic effects of a material directly on tissue culture. Fibroblast cells is a major role in the development, maintenance and repair of connective tissue. Stimulation of toxic substances can cause injury to cells by damaging cell membranes, mitochondria and disrupting enzymes or endogenous cell substrates. Noni extract is an extract from ripe noni fruit that is often used by the community as traditional medicine because it contains active substances that stimulate the immune system, regulate cell function and regenerate damaged body tissue cells namely xeronin, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids and polysaccharides. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of noni extract on fibroblast cell cytotoxicity by conducting an In Vitro study using the MTT assay Method. Results showed that in the placebo gel group at 0.0600 the average percentage of fibroblast cell death was greater than the treatment group given the concentration of noni with a concentration of 10% at 0.0556. The results of the Independent Test T-test showed no significant differences between the two treatment groups which showed (p> 0.05). The conclusion of this study was that there was no significant difference between the control group and the treatment group. In other words, the results of the study show that there is no toxic material for fibroblast cells, which shows that there is only a small cell death but still in a non-toxic cell boundary.
