THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELFCONFIDENCE AND SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT OF THE EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 KUTA UTARA IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

The present study used a correlational research design that was intended to figure out the significant correlation between students' selfconfidence and speaking achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2022/2023. The samples of the present study consisted of 60 students from 413 eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2022/2023, and they were chosen by applying cluster sampling method with spinner online aplication. The data were collected by administering the research instruments which were in the form of a questionnaire of self-confidence and speaking monologue test. The results of normality and homogeneity test showed the two research variables data were normal and homogenous. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 25.0. Furthermore, it was found out the result of the correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking achievement was 0.626. The alternative hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking achievement of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2022/2023.
