THE CORRELATION BETWEEN READING HABIT AND READING COMPREHENSION OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENT OF SMP NEGERI 1 PAYANGAN IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

The main purpose of this research was to find the positive correlation between reading habit and reading comprehension of the Eighth Grade Student of SMP Negeri 1 Payangan in Academic Year 2022/2023. There were two variables in the present research. The independent variable was reading habit and dependent variable was reading comprehension. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Payangan. The sample of this study were 32 students which were taken with cluster random sampling method. The design of this study was ex post facto research correlational study. Furthermore, the questionnaire and short answer task were used as the research instruments. The research instruments were made in order collected the required data. The data were then analyzed by using SPSS 25 version. There were two step in analyzing the data, namely pre-requisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis testing was conducted by applying Pearson Product Moment Correlation and TTest. Based on the finding, it was found that the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.657. It shows that there is a positive correlation between reading habit and reading comprehension of the eighth grade student of SMP Negeri 1 Payangan in academic year 2022/2023. In conclusion, the hypothesis is accepted.
