Abstract

This study was intended to determine the correlation between motivation and reading comprehension by answering the short answer test. The present study made use of an ex-post facto research with a correlation design. The research sample was the eight-grade students of SMP Widya Sakti Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. The samples of the research were chosen by means of a cluster sampling technique consisting of 36 students. The data which were needed for the present study were collected through administering questionnaires and short answer test as the research instruments. To collect the data, the researcher used these two research instruments. To collected data were than analyzed by using SPSS 26 prerequisite analysis, normality and homogeneity test and hypothesis testing. Pearson productmoment correlation and t-test. Based on the statistical analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the eight-grade students of SMP Widya Sakti Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023.
