Abstract
Reading as one of four skills in English, plays an essential key in all sources of knowledge that should be mastered by students. In fact, most of the students in senior high school faced problems in reading comprehension. The objective of the present study was intended to determine whether or not reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 4 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through think pair share with description through a classroom action research. There for to achieve the objective of the present study the researcher activities consisted of pre-test, posttest and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test clearly showed that the subject under study were low 49.72. Then, the researcher applied Think Pair Share with Picture Description to increase the ability of the subjects under study. The posttest were administered at the end of each cycle. The result of the post-test in cycle I and cycle II were 71.94 and 82.50. The result of the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2 significantly improved after the implementation of think pair share with picture description. Moreover, to collect the additional supporting data, the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end of cycle II. It showed that the students become more active and their reading comprehension could be significantly improved. To sum up, the present classroom action research proved that reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMA PGRI 4 Denpasar in the academic year 2022/2023 could be improved through think pair share with picture description.
