Abstract

The main purpose of this research was to find out the implementation of think pair share strategy to improve reading comprehension at the eighthgrade students at SMPN 1 Petang in academic year 2022/2023. In this research indicates that most of the students in VIII B of SMPN 1 Petang in the academic year 2022/2023 have reading comprehension problems, especially in understanding general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textual reference. In addition, the research objective was to know whether reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Petang can be improved through think pair share strategy. Therefore, the researchers conducted a two-cycle classroom action research to achieve the objective of the study. The research instruments such as tests and questionnaires were administered to collect the required data. The researcher then analyzed the data by comparing the pre-test and post-test results and found that there was a significant improvement in the mean score of the subjects from pre-test to post-test. As supporting data, a questionnaire was also administered at the end of the last cycle and the results indicated a positive response to implementation of the think pair share strategy. Based on the results of the research instruments, the researcher concluded that the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Petang in the academic year 2022/2023 can be improved by using think pair share strategy.
