Abstract
The study aimed to find out the correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kediri in academic year 2022/2023. This research used ex-post facto in form of correlational study. The population of the study is the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kediri in academic year 2022/2023 and the number of sample were 64 students which were chose by means of cluster sampling method. The instrument of this research was questionnaire to measure students 'motivation and short answer task to measure the students reading comprehension. First the data was analyzed to find out the normality and homogeneity of the two variables. Then, the data hypothetically analyzed using Pearson Product Moment. From the data analysis it showed the result that the correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Kediri in academic year 2022/2023.
