Abstract

Reading is thinking and understanding and getting at the meaning behind a text. Preliminary study showed that most of the eight-grade students of SMPN 1 Kediri in academic year 2022/2023 faced problems in reading comprehension especially identifying general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textual reference. Thus, the research aimed was to know whether reading comprehension of the eight-grade students of SMPN 1 Kediri can be improved through RAP strategy. Therefore, to achieve the objective, the researcher conducted classroom action research which done in to two cycles. The research instrument used in this research were test and questionnaire, that were administered to collect the required data. Then the data analyzed by comparing the result from pre-test and post-test. The findings showed there were significant improvement from the mean score of pre-test to pos-test. The questionnaire was also administered at the end of the last cycle and the result showed positive responses in the implementation RAP strategy. Based on the research findings, it could be concluded that reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP N 1 Kediri in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved through RAP strategy.
