Abstract

The research concentrates on the linguistic characteristics utilized by the female characters in “To All the Boys I've Loved Before” movie. Mainly the study is aimed to examine the several categories of female language features that are commonly employed in the dialogue delivered in the movie, as well as the roles played by each feature identified. This study used a qualitative approach to provide a concise and well-organized overview of the issues found. The research aims in this study are elaborated using descriptive study and textual analysis as the solutions to the research questions. Data were obtained from the movie script and evaluated using Lakoff's 1975 theory of women's language features and the same expert's idea of the functions of women's language features in 1989 to analyze the functions. The study comes to the conclusion that nine out of 10 characteristics of women's language were present in the film. Precise color phrases, however, were not included in this analysis. Women's linguistic features served primarily three purposes in this study: to demonstrate a woman's reluctance when making a statement about herself and to convey her admiration for something or someone. All of the female characters in the film regularly use female linguistic traits, which served to both reinforce and diminish any statements made during discussion.
