AN ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN “THE FIRST KING: BIRTH OF AN EMPIRE” MOVIE

This study is conducted in order to know what dimension of characterization is found in The First King: Birth of An Empire movie and what method of character portrayal are found in The First King: Birth of An Empire movie. The data of this study were taken from the movie entitled The First King: Birth of An Empire. The first theory proposed by Wellek and Warren in the book entitled Theory Of Literature (1949) was used to analyze the dimension of characterization and the second theory proposed by Kenney in the book entitled How To Analyze Fiction (1966) was used to analyze method of character portrayal. The data of this study were collected based on library research. The data were analyzed by descriptive qualitative method. The result of the study presented by formal and informal method. The result in this study shows that there are three types dimension of characterization such as Physiological dimension, Sociological dimension and Psychological dimension. And there are three types method of character portrayal used in the movie, namely Discursive method, Dramatic method and Contextual method.
