Abstract

Putra., I Gede Krismon Andika, 2022. The Maxim Violation on The Little Movie. English Study Program, Faculty of Foreign Languages Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. Supervisor: Putu Devi Maharani, S. S, M. Hum. and Co- Supervisor: Putu Desi Anggerina Hikmaharyanti, S.S., M. Hum. This study concerns the types of Maxim Violation and Context of Situation related to the dialogue of the Little movie. This study applies the theory of maxim violation proposed by Paul Grice (1975) and the analysis about the context of the situation in which the theory proposed by Halliday & Hassan (1985). The method used is qualitative method by following the data with the observation through watching and analyzing the dialogue in characters’ utterances and also reading the dialogue repeatedly and note-taking process in analyzing the data. The analysis found that the character’s utterances violate maxim types mostly conducted by the main participants or the character in the movie, where the total of data is 39 data of maxim violation. The highest is 15 data or 39% of violation maxim of quality, followed by 13 data or 33% of violation maxim of quantity, 6 data or 15% of violation of maxim relevance and lastly 5 data or 13% maxim violation of manner. Moreover, this analysis also consists of context situation analysis about Field, Tenor, and Mode in this paper.
