Abstract
This study focuses on analyzing the types and reasons of code switching found in the Podcast Ruang Sandi used by Sandiaga Uno and Cinta Laura. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method by classifying and describing the types of code switching based on the theory of Hoffman (1991) and also the reasons of code switching based on Grosjean (1998) theory which is also supported by the theory of speech functions of code switching by Gumperz (1982). The total data were 103code switching, there were 45% intra-sentential switches, 46% inter-sentential switches, 8% establishing continuity switches, and 2% emblematic switching. As the result, inter sentential was the most dominant and emblematic switching was the least occurrence. Meanwhile, regarding the second problem, the result shows that from 103 data, 33% data were influenced by fill the linguistics need lexical item, set phrase, discourse maker or sentence filler, 13% contributed last language used (triggering), 2% quoted someone and mark and emphasize group identity (solidarity) , 4% specify address, 28% qualify message amplify or emphasize (top in argument), 5% specify speaker involvement (personalize message), 6% convey confidentiality, anger, annoyance, and 7% change the role of the speaker, raise status , add authority, show expertise.
