Abstract
Most of Indonesian people, including Daniel Mananta can speak more than one language, therefore combining languages are often done accidentally either spoken or written. This can be said as code-switching. Code-switching occurs when a speaker alternates between two or more language and language varieties, in the context of a single conversation. This study has two aims such as: (1) to find out the type of code-switching used by Daniel Mananta utterances (2) to analyze the functions of code-switching by Daniel Mananta utterances. The method is applied in order to give clear description on the data according to theory proposed by Romaine (1989: 122) and theory proposed by Apple and Muysken (1987). Qualitative method is used for this study for analyzing the data collected from ten Podcast.. The result of this study shows that all types of code-switching and six function of code-switching were found. The three types of code-switching found in this research namely tag switching, intra-sentential switching and inter sentential switching, in which the most dominant switching is intra-sentential switching which is 74 data (41,07%), inter-sentential switching 55 data (30,42%) and tag switching 51 data (28,28%). Meanwhile, the most dominant function was found is metalinguistic function with 81 total data (44,95%), referential function 41 data (22,71%), directive function 26 data (14,39%), phatic function 15 data (8,33%), expressive function 15 data (8,33%), and poetic function was the lowest occurrence in Daniel Mananta podcast on Spotify 2 data (1,11%).
