Abstract

Putri., I Dewa Ayu Gita Wardaning Putri. 2022. An Analysis on Deixis Used in The Late Late Show with James Corden. English Study Program, Faculty of Foreign Languages, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University. Supervisor: Dr. Putu Nur Ayomi, S.S., M.Hum.; Co-supervisor: Putu Devi Maharani, S.S., M.Hum. The study concerns the deixis in James Corden's utterances on the talk show The Late Late Show. In this study, the researcher used the deixis theory by Yule (1996). The theory is used to solve the research problem: what types of deixis are used and the function of each deixis type found on the talk show The Late Late Show with James Corden. This study aims to find out the types of deixis used and the function of each deixis type in the talk show The Late Late Show with James Corden. Researchers applied three stages: first watching the talk show, second reading the subtitles available on the video, and third, classifying the data contained in James Corden's utterances in the episode "Social Media is Tearing Society Apart, but Getting us Free Clothes" with a note-taking technique. This qualitative study uses the observation method to collect data. In James Corden's utterance found 152 person deixis, 10 words of spatial deixis, and 4 of temporal deixis. Thus, the person's deixis is the most dominant of all types of deixis in the utterances of James Corden on The Late Late Show with James Corden talk show.
