Abstract
This research focused on the utterance used by English Teacher at Dynata School Primary. Based on the background of the study in making the students understand, the teacher uses code-switching in teaching-learning process and recognize the subject that is taught for students. The teacher can use two languages or switch the language while understanding the material. This research has specific aims (1) To identify the types of code-switching used by English teacher at the; and (2) To specify the functions of code-switching used by English teacher at the first grade of Dyanta School Primary in academic year 2021/2022. The data collected from fourth observation by online meeting and in this research the writer was analyzed using a qualitative method. The method was applied in order to make clear analysis on the data according to theory Poplack (1980) and Gumperz (1982). The findings of this research show that all types and functions of code-switching have been found. First there are 105 data with 100% percentage of three types code switching. The types code-switching consists of 16 data (15,24%) tag switching, 47 data (44,76%) inter-sentential switching, and 42 data (40%) intra-sentential switching. Second there are 105 data with 100% percentage of six functions of code-switching. The functions code-switching concists of Quotation 2 data (2,85%), Addressee Specification 11 data (10,49%), Interjection 27 data (25,71%), Reiteration 22 data (20,95%), Message Qualification 36 data (34,28%), and Personalization and Objectification 6 data (5,72%). The phenomenon of code switching through time is becoming highly complicated. The phonemenon of code switching occurs in classroom in teaching-learning process. In the subject of linguistics, code switching is a fascinating topic to discuss, especially in sociolinguistics research.
