ANALYSIS OF THE MAIN CHARACTER’S CONFLICT IN THE MOVIE DOLITTLE

There are three objectives of this study. The first one is to find out the type of conflict encountered by the main character from the beginning up to the end of the movie, the second one is to analyze the causes of the conflict in Dolittle's movie, and the third one is to analyze how the main character resolved the conflict as described in the Dolittle movie. The data in this study were taken from the movie Dolittle. The data were collected through observation research. There were some steps of collecting the data; namely, watching the movie and listening carefully to understand the movie sequences, especially about the conflicts. Next, classified the data according to the types of conflict and finally it was analyzed based on the literary theory and theory of conflict. The discussion of conflict is reflected into two kind of conflict. Both conflicts were analyzed from the sources of conflict and the style of conflict management strategies. Based on the analysis, there were the elements of internal and external conflict found in the movie. In internal conflict, the main character encountered the personal conflict or self-conflict. Moreover, in external conflict the main character encountered several types of conflict namely, conflict with other character (man, against man) and conflict with character in nature form or animal (man, against nature). There are kind of conflict management styles used by the main character to resolve the conflict namely turtle style, shark style, mouse deer style, fox style, and owl style.
