Abstract

Pragmatics is the study of the meaning communicated by the speaker to the listener and involves the interpretation of utterances based on the circumstance.In Pragmatic there is a study that studies speech act. Speech act is an action performed via utterances. The study concerns with the types of illocutionary act and the meaning of illocutionary acts found in Final Destination 5 movie. The study used theory by Searle (1979) about Types of Illocutionary act, theory from Leech (1981) about Seven Types of Meaning, and the theory by Halliday and Hassan (1985) about Context of Situation support to analyze the context situation found in the movie. The study used qualitative method to analyze the types of illocutionary act contained in Final Destination 5 movie. As a result, there are 5 types of illocutionary acts obtained during the study. The data for this study were taken from the Final Destination 5 movie. They are assertive (23,07%), directive (34,6%), commissive (11,5 %), expressive (26,9 %) and declarations (3,84%). From 26 data collected in the movie, directive illocutionary act is the most commonly used in the movie, and the least occurrence act used is declarations that only consist of 1 data.
