THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELFCONFIDENCE AND SPEAKING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP (SLUB) SARASWATI 1 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This research aimed at finding out how students’ self-confidence influenced speaking skill of the seventh-grade students in SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar. The population of this study was 260 students in grade seventh in academic year 2021/2022. The sample of this study was 26 students. They were chosen by random sampling technique. The data were collected by using selfconfidence questionnaire and speaking performance and delivered by using WhatsApp Group platform. The obtained data were analysed by investigating the correlation between students’ self-confidence score and speaking test score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 26.0. Furthermore, it was found out the result of the correlation between students’ self-confidence and speaking skill was 0.611. It means that there was a significant correlation between students’ selfconfidence and speaking skill of the seventh-grade students of SMP (SLUB) Saraswati 1 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. In conclusion, the positive hypothesis is accepted.
