THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND SPEAKING SKILL OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 MENGWI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

Speaking is one of the tools to communicate with other people. In learning speaking, there are some factors that make students get low score. Those are some students are afraid of being active in speaking and would not try to speak English in motivation from themselves. The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the correlation between motivation and speaking skill of the seventh grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwi in academic year 2021/2022. The sample of the research consisted of 40 students which were chosen by means random sampling method. The data were collected through administering the research instrument which were in the form of structured questionnaire and making video. The results of the data analyzed by using Pre- requisite Testing, Normality testing, Homogeneity Testing, Hypothesis Testing, Pearson product moment correlation and T-Testing. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is a significant correlation between motivation and speaking skill of the seventh grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwi in academic year 2021/2022.
