Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Sila Dharma in academic year 2021/2022. The samples under the study were 42 students of the eighth grade students of SMP Sila Dharma that were chosen by using random sampling method with lottery system. The researcher used two tests to get the data of vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension, such as vocabulary assessment test for the vocabulary mastery and short answer test for the reading comprehension. The obtained data were assessed by using Product Moment formula and analyzed by using SPSS 26 for windows. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there is a high, significant and positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of SMP Sila Dharma in academic year 2021/2022. Therefore, it answered the research question that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension.
