THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP PGRI 1 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The present study dealt with the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. The present study was intended to figure out the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022. The present study used an ex-post facto research with correlational design. The samples of the present study were selected by using random sampling method with lottery system, and the total number of the samples was 40. There were two research instruments which were used to collect the data. It was multiple-choice test as the vocabulary mastery instrument and short monologue as the speaking ability instrument. Based on the results of a pearson product moment correlation and t-test, the researcher confirmed that the directional hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, it can be said that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability of the eighth grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022.
