Abstract

This reserach was aimed to know: “There was significant correlation between ‟vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2021/2022. The researcher methodology of this research was a quantitative. The population of the research was the seventhgrade students at SMPN 2 Kuta Utara, the number of students was 315 students. The sample of this research were 32 students. For collecting the data, researcher used two instruments which were cloze test for vocabulary mastery and paragraph construction for descriptive paragraph writing ability. The cloze test consisted of aspects; noun, verb, pronoun, and adjective. While, The paragraph construction test used included several aspect such as format, punctuation and mechanics, content, organization, grammar and sentence structure of descriptive paragraph writing ability. SPSS 22 program was used to analyze data which had been collected. After analyzing the data, the normality test in vocabulary mastery was 0.072. Then, the descriptive paragraph writing ability was 0.403. Both the variables were greater than significant value 0.05. The homogeneity analysis shows that the calculation was 0.628 which greater than significant value of 0.05. The result of normality and homogeneity test meant that the data was normally distributed and homogenous. The result of Pearson Product Moment was 0.973. It showed that there was significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the seventh-grade students at SMPN 2 Kuta Utara in academic year 2021/2022.
