Abstract

This study dealt with the correlation between English vocabulary mastery and writing ability at the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Abiansemal in academic year 2021/2022. The main purpose of the present research was to find out whether there was significant correlation between English vocabulary mastery and writing ability. It made used correlation design. The population of the present study consisted of 378 students and 44 of them were chosen as the samples. They were determined by means simple random sampling technique with lottery system. The researcher used two tests to get the data of vocabulary mastery and writing ability, such as: cloze task vocabulary test for the vocabulary mastery and written descriptive text for the writing ability. The technique of analyzing data were descriptive statistics and inferential analysis using SPSS 25.0. The researcher analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality test, homogeneity test, Pearson product moment and t-testing, whereas inferential analysis used to prove the hypothesis test in the significance level 0.05. The result of the analysis data showed that the coefficient correlation was 0.631. It indicated that there was a high correlation between English vocabulary mastery and writing ability. Based on the result of this research, it can be stated that the hypothesis was accepted.
