Abstract

The undertaking of the research was mainly based on the preliminary study. The subjects were the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Abiansemal in academic year 2019/2020. There were 30 subjects which consist of fourteen males and sixteen females. The research design was classroom action research. The objective was to know whether or not their writing skill can be improved through PPP combined with picture. The research was carried out through implementing PPP combined with picture in two cycles and each cycle consisted two session and the obtained data was analyzed quantitatively from the pre-test, post-test 1, and post-test 2; then qualitatively from the questionnaire. The result showed that there was significant improvement of the subjects’ skill in writing descriptive paragraph. In the pre-test, the mean score of the subjects was 63.06. In the posttest 1, the mean score of the subjects was 67.7. Meanwhile, in post-test II the mean score was 72.96. As supporting data, the questionnaire was also administered in the end of the last cycle and the results showed positive responses on the implementation of PPP in improving writing skill. It could be stated that writing skill of the eighth grade students of SMPN 1 Abiansemal in academic year 2019/2020 can be improved through PPP combined with picture.
