THE CORRELATION BETWEEN STUDENTS’ SELF CONFIDENCE AND THEIR SPEAKING ABILITY OF THE SEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 2 MENGWI IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This study aimed at finding out how self-confidence influenced speaking ability of the seventh-grade students in SMPN 2 Mengwi. It made use of a correlational research design. The sample consisted of 40 students. They were chosen by random sampling technique. The data which were needed for this research were collected through questioner about self-confidence and speaking test as the research instrument and delivered by using Google form and WhatsApp platform. The obtained data were analysed by investigating the correlation between students’ self-confidence score and speaking score which was done by using IBM SPSS Statistic 26.0. The result of the correlation between students’ selfconfidence and their speaking ability was 0.470. It described that there is a significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking ability of the seventh-grade students of SMP N 2 MENGWI in academic year 2020/2021. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
