THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND WRITING ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 BLAHBATUH IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

This correlation study was aimed at finding out the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and writing ability of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022. The sample was chosen by using cluster sampling as many as 92 students. The researcher used two tests to get the data of vocabulary mastery and descriptive writing ability, such as cloze test items for the vocabulary mastery and picture description test for the descriptive writing ability. The obtained data were assessed by using Product Moment’s formula and analyzed by using SPSS 26.0 for windows. Based on the data analysis, it showed that there is a high, significant, and positive correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022. Therefore, it answered the research question that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability.
