The Correlation Between Vocabulary Mastery and Speaking Skills of the Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 2 Ubud in Academic Year 2023/2024

The primary purpose of this research was to determine the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking skills of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Ubud in the academic year 2023/2024. There were two variables in the present research. The independent variable was vocabulary mastery, and the dependent variable was speaking skills. The population of this study was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Ubud. The sample of this study was 50 students, who were taken using a random sampling method. The design of this study was an ex post facto research correlational study. Furthermore, the close and personal monologue tests were used as the research instruments. The research instruments were made in order to collect the required data. The data were then analyzed by using the SPSS 26 version. There were two data analysis steps: pre-requisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The hypothesis testing was conducted by applying Pearson Product Moment Correlation and T-test. Based on the findings, the correlation coefficient obtained is 0.970. It shows a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking skills of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Ubud in the academic year 2023/2024. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
