Abstract

Writing skill is one of four important skills which has to be essentially mastered. In fact, most of the students in junior high school faced problem in writing skill. The objective of the present study was to find out whether or not writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Abiansemal Badung in academic year 2021/2022 could be improved through Collaborative Writing Strategy through classroom action research. There for to achieve the objective of the present study the researcher activities consisted of pre-test, post-test and questionnaire. The result of the pre-test clearly showed that the subject under study were low 59.84. Then, the researcher applied Collaborative Writing Strategy to increase the ability of the subjects under study. The post-tests were administered at the end of each cycle by using picture. The result of the of post-test in cycle I and cycle II were 69.5 and 81.18 The signification different figured that cycle II was more effective than cycle I. Moreover, to collect the additional supporting data, the researcher administered the questionnaire at the end cycle II. It showed that the students’ motivation and attitude changed positively after the implementation of Collaborative Writing Strategy. To sum up, the present classroom action research proved that writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 2 Abiansemal Badung in academic year 2021/2022 could be improved through Collaborative Writing Strategy classroom action research. In addition, the subjects also responded positively.
