THE CORRELATION BETWEEN VOCABULARY MASTERY AND WRITING SKILL OF TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA NEGERI 1 SELEMADEG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

Vocabulary mastery is very important for write an academic writing or non-academic writing. In fact, the students in senior high school which is good on vocabulary also good on writing. Besides, the student which is lower masters the vocabulary also bad on writing. The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlational design was intended to figure out the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Selemadeg in academic year 2021/2022. The sample of the research consisted of 43 students which were chosen by random sampling. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of vocabulary writing task and text construction. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment and T-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the directional hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research finding confirmed that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Selemadeg in academic year 2021/2022.
