Abstract
The objective of this study was to find out whether story completion technique could improve English speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Ruteng Purang in academic year 2021/2022. This research is a Classroom Action Research model Kemmis Mc. Taggart, which was done in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects in this study were students of class XI IPS 3 SMAN 2 Ruteng Purang in the academic year 2021/2022. The object of this research is the implementation of story completion technique to improve students' English speaking ability. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the students' mean scores between pre-cycle, cycle I and cycle II were improved. The mean score in pre-cycle was 49.33, in Cycle I was 64.00, and in Cycle II was 76.22. There was a significant increase between pre-cycle and cycle II. Moreover, the researcher also administered questionnaire to the subjects during the teaching learning process of the implementation of story completion technique. The subjects gave positive responses (agree) after implementing story completion technique. The implementation of story completion technique could increase students' enthusiasm, imagination, activeness and sufficient opportunities for students to speak. It was more important that story completion technique improved speaking ability of the eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Ruteng Purang in academic year 2021/2022.
