Abstract

This study dealt with the correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth grade students of SMPN I Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022. The purpose was to find out whether there was significant correlation between students' vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability. It made used of an ex-post facto research design. The population of the present study consisted of 468 students and 45 of them were chosen as the samples, choosed by using random sampling technique. The researcher used two tests to get the data, such as: cloze tasks for vocabulary mastery and paragraph construction task for descriptive paragraph writing ability. The techniques of analyzing data were descriptive statistics and inferential analysis using SPSS 25. The rescarcher analyzed using descriptive statisties, normality test, homogeneity test, hypothesis test, pearson product moment test, and t-testing. The results of data analysis clearly show that the study states that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Blahbatuh in academic year 2021/2022.
