Abstract

Reading comprehension is a crucial skill that enables individuals to acquire new information. This research aims to improve the students’ reading comprehension. This research employs the Classroom Action Research method, addressing identified issues through two cycles. This research was conducted at SMPN 4 Denpasar on class VIII.10 students that were 40 subjects in a class, with an initial pre-test mean score of 63.00. The subjects that were successfully passed the passing grade was only 35%. After that the researcher implemented cycle I using the KWL Plus strategy with the post-test I results showed a mean score of 85.25 with the subjects that success passed the passing grade was 82.5%. Then continued with cycle II by employing the same strategy the results of post-test II mean score was 97.25 with the subjects that success passed the passing grade was 97.5%. Furthermore, a questionnaire was provided for all of the subjects in the last cycle. The results of the questionnaire for strongly agree was 35.22%, for agree was 52.72%, for undecided was 12.04%, and the last for disagree and strongly disagree was 0 %. This research demonstrates the effective improvement of reading comprehension among the subject at VIII.10 class, emphasizing the success of the KWL Plus strategy in the academic year 2023/2024.
