Abstract

This research concerns with derivational suffixes that are found in Inspirational book “Becoming Unstoppable” by Maria Rahajeng and Elizabeth Rahajeng. This research aims to find out the types of derivational suffixes that are found in Inspirational book “Becoming Unstoppable”. This study analysis about the morphological process of derivational suffixes that found in inspirational book “Becoming Unstoppable”. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study were analyzed using theory from Plag (2003) and McCarthy (2002). Becoming Unstoppable book, comprising ten chapters and a total of two hundred and five pages, authored by Maria Rahajeng and Elizabeth Rahajeng was published in Indonesia by PT. Elex Media Komputindo in 2018. The study revealed four primary types of derivational suffixes: nominal, verbal, adjectival, and adverbial. A total of 108 instances were identified, with nominal suffixes comprising the majority at 71 instance. These nominal suffixes included -al, -ance, -ence, -e(ry), -ness, -ing, -ion, -ment, -ity, -er, and -or. Verbal suffixes accounted for just 1 instance, represented by -ize. Adjectival suffixes constituted 35 instances, encompassing suffixes like -al, -able, -ible, -ary, -ful, -ic, and -less. Adverbial suffixes were the least frequent, with 7 instances characterized by the suffix -ly. The findings indicated that nominal suffixes were the most prevalent, followed by adjectival suffixes, adverbial suffixes, with verbal suffixes being the least commonly identified in the data analysis.
