An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts Found In “Rambo: Last Blood” Movie

Language is one of the most important skills that humans use to interact with other people because humans need communication in everyday life. Currently, in helping people understand language, there is a lot of research that discusses language itself. Speech acts are one of the sciences that help humans understand language. This research aims to determine the types of illocutionary acts and their intended meaning. Data taken from the film entitled Rambo: Last Blood. Data collection was carried out using observation methods and recording techniques by grouping data based on the type of illocutionary act. The collected data was analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method using the theory put forward by Yule (1996) and Halliday (1989) to analyze the types and meaning of illocutionary acts spoken by all the characters in the film Rambo Last Blood. These findings show that all types of illocutionary acts found in films are representative, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative, but representative has the largest number, namely 15 (25%), followed by declarative 13 (21.7%), while directive 12 (20%) and expressive with the same number, namely 12 (20%), expressive is the lowest, namely only 8 (13.3%). All these sayings have explicit and implied meanings. The implied meaning can be known by understanding the context of the situation in the story. These statements convey explicit and implied meanings, with the hidden meaning becoming clear through understanding the contextual situation in the story.
