Abstract

Writing is one of four essential skills that must be mastered in essence. However, most junior high school students had writing problems. This study aimed to examine whether the degree of writing ability of the seventh-grade students at SMPN N 3 Ubud in the academic year 2023/2024 could be improved by PPP Technique through classroom action research. To achieve the purpose of this study, the researcher's activities consisted of a pre-test, a post-test, and a questionnaire. Pre-test results clearly showed a low level in writing ability at 41.2 mean score. Researchers then applied a PPP Technique to improve the skills tested. Post-tests were conducted through the PPP Technique at the end of each cycle. In Cycle I and Cycle II post-test the results were significantly improved at 64.4 and 72.7 mean score. Another implication is that cycle II was more effective than cycle I. In addition, researchers completed a questionnaire at the end of Cycle II to collect additional supporting data. It was shown that the student's motivation and attitude changed positively after the PPP Technique was implemented. In summary, the present research shows that the seventh-grade students' writing skills at SMPN 3 Ubud in the academic year 2023/2024 can be improved through PPP Technique.
