Abstract

Writing is one of the important language skills among reading, listening, and speaking. By mastering writing skill, someone can write well to convey the information they have to others in the written form. However, there are several problems experienced by students in learning English, including find ideas, arrange the words into good sentences and arrange the sentences into a paragraph. They could not make an irrelevant content in their composition, lack of vocabulary and grammar. The present research objective was mainly intended to find out whether writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in the Academic Year 2023/2024 can be improved through Transition Action Details. The present study used the classroom action research design that was conducted in two cycles. The required data were collected by administering research instruments namely paragraph construction tests and a questionnaire. After the cyclical research processes, it was found that Transition Action Details was an appropriate teaching technique to improve the subjects’ writing skill, especially in constructing a descriptive paragraph. It could be seen from the results of the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2, which showed significant improvement in the subjects’ writing skill. Furthermore, it was supported by the questionnaire, which showed positive responses from the subjects to the implementation of Transition Action Details. Therefore, it can be concluded that writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in academic year 2023/2024 could be improved by implementing Transition Action Details.
