Improving Writing Skill of the Seventh-grade Students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in the Academic Year 2023/2024 through Roundtable Combined with Picture

Writing is one of the important skills to master since it is a communication tool to generate ideas into information. By mastering writing skill, someone can communicate well to convey the information they have to others. However, there are several problems experienced by students in learning English, especially writing including expressing ideas, grammatical error, and lack of vocabulary mastery. The present research objective was mainly intended to find out whether writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 5 Mengwi in the academic year 2023/2024 could be improved through Roundtable Combined with Picture. The present study used a classroom action research design that was conducted in two cycles. The required data were collected by administering research instruments: tests and a questionnaire. After the cyclical research processes, it was found that Roundtable Combined with Picture was an appropriate teaching technique to improve the subjects’ writing skill, especially in constructing descriptive paragraph. Besides, it could be seen from the pre-test, post-test 1 and post-test 2 results, which showed significant improvement in their writing skill. It was supported by the structured questionnaire, which showed positive responses toward the implementation of Roundtable Combined with Picture. It can be concluded that writing skill of the seventh-grade students of SMP N 5 Mengwi in the academic year 2023/2024 could be improved by implementing Roundtable Combined with Picture.
