Abstract

This research deals with the deixis analysis that occurs in Rex Orange Country's song lyrics. The aims of this study to determine the types of deixis used in the lyrics of the Rex Orange Country’s selected song and to analyze the context of situation of the deixis found in the lyrics of the Rex Orange Country’s selected song. Data collection was carried out through the observation method by listening to songs, reading song lyrics to determine the data types of deixis, noting and classifying the types of deixis. Qualitative method was used to analyze the data, based on Levinson's theory (1983) regarding types of deixis, and situational context theory by Halliday and Hassan (1985). The methods of presenting data are formal and informal methods. All types of deixis are found in Rex Orange Country's selected of songs. There were 438 personal deixis with a percentage of 79%, spatial deixis 51 data with a percentage of 9%, temporal deixis 36 data with a percentage of 7%, social deixis 20 data. with a percentage of 4%, and 5 discourse deixis data with a percentage of 1%. For the context of situation in Rex Orange Country Song, the field is mostly pointing about love, the tenor is pointing the speakers himself and the addressee, and the mode is used informal written language with declarative sentence.
